Yes, we've started work on the CDMC Report. The first thing we have done is to divide up the task into smaller components. Divide and rule thing. So, the campus has been divided into 6 Zones and one CDMC Member has been made in-charge of co-ordinating the volunteers and the work with respect to that Zone.
The Zones and the Committee member in charge of that zone are:
1. Acad Block Kranti
2. Library Priya
3. Girls Hostel Ameya
4. Boys Hostel Harsh
5. Sports Facilities Rachel
6. Rest of the Campus Kranti (temporary) (to be replaced by our new co-opts)
Volunteers for each group will meet in this week (come on guys, move it!) and take a walk through the area of a particular Zone and brainstorm together to get as many ideas as possible about the problems and solutions with respect to that particular area. Hopefully by the time we have our Open Meeting this Thursday (25th Oct) we will have an outline of what our Report is going to deal with.
We only have a handful of volunteers and are looking forward to more people contributing to this effort in one way or another. Send an email to cdmc.nls@gmail.com with the Zone of your choice and a CDMC Member will get in touch with you with the details of how you can contribute.

Campus Development Report
What is this Report all about?
There are lots of things that are under-planned, wrongly-constructed, or mismanaged on our campus. No hot water some mornings, no cold water on others, no water at all sometimes.. Garbage burnt just below your window.. Dogs overturning dustbins in the loo.. Fungus on the wall.. Lights missing on the pathways.. No dustbins on the field, or in the nation's premier law library.. Trees cut down and benches 'de-constructed' overnight.. Canteen closes at 6 so in the pouring rain having to battle slush to get a cup of coffee to stay awake to finish that damn project.. TV not working, not enough chairs to sit on in the common room...
One of the main aims of this Report is to provide a list of the issues on campus that need to be tackled. Short term, medium term and long term. Equally important will be the Proposed Solutions which have a decent amount of research to back them up in terms of a Cost-Benefit-Analysis.
The other objective is to provide a vision statement sort of thing.. what do we, the student body, expect our campus to have within the next say 5 to 10 years? Do we want an amphitheater? A sports complex? A jogging track? A dance hall? (a bit of disciplined wishful thinking!)

Why such a Report?
A comprehensive document of this sort will help both the general study body, the coming generations of committee members, the faculty, the admin and whoever is interested in either a general overview or detailed knowledge of the problems on campus and some of the possible solutions to them. We hope that such a document will show the students' interest and willingness to be a part of the decision making process and in future help us to demand to be consulted. If no one bothers about the Report we could maybe leak bits to the Press? (just a thought.. its a possibility though.. wouldnt they love to know that parts of our library collapsed soon after being built and that the committee set up to find out why has happily extended its deadline to infinity!?)

If CDMC is busy doing this report then who's going to be dealing with urgent campus related issues when we want them to???
CDMC will not stop working its current responsibilities. The Report will be made simultaneously. We will also have a deadline sometime before the end of 2007 and that will make sure this gets done.

How can such a small committee make such a comprehensive report?
Well we really need your help people. First, we are planning to take two co-opts at the beginning of the second trimester. Also, we will call on our honourary members to help us gather data, come up with ideas and goad us to stick to our deadlines. We would be really glad if you could offer your help in any respect. Books and Rainy Days
For most people, the Monday afternoon, just after the Convocation was a lazy one. Not so for Team CDMC however. The CDMC Convenor’s car proved to be quite a useful vehicle, for our annual (and sometimes bi-annual) trip to Blossoms. The aim of the trip: Increase the stock of the SBA Library.
On entering, we fanned out to different areas of the shop, each with a list of the books wanted by the members of the SBA. As it began to rain, the minutes became hours. For me, this was the most enjoyable part of the day. Going through different books, selecting your favourite authors, discussing them with the others, etc. etc. etc. was a pleasure in itself. As our shopping baskets got full, it was time to take tough decisions. Which books to buy and which not to, was something we did with heavy hearts. Authors whose names were listed the most in the list like Wodehouse, Terry Pratchett, Grisham were the first choice. Efforts were also made to have a diverse range of writings. So we ended up buying classics like Wuthering Heights, comedies by Alexander McCall Smith, thrillers by Jeffrey Archer and science fiction by Asimov. Not to forget the desi touch, books like The Great Indian Novel and works by Satyajit Ray were also bought. Of course, it was just not possible to buy all the books which had been asked for. Soon, we reached a situation, where we had to vote after persuasive arguments, on which books to buy, as opinion was split.
It was a first of many sorts for CDMC though. The sheer number of books, 51 (yes, you read it right), was simply unprecedented. It was also the first time that we bought brand new copies of some popular demands like Shantaram, My Name is Red among others. At the end of the day, we had suitcase (again courtesy our dear Convenor), full of books by authors like Tolkien, Douglas Adams, Agatha Christie and John Updike, and famous books like To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Godfather and Lord of the Flies. By the time we were done, the rain had subsided and we all headed to the tasty offerings of Kaati Zone.
Team CDMC was to meet a few days later, again on a rainy afternoon. The mission this time was to cover the books so that they would last longer. As we gathered in the Common Room, I was reminded of my school days, where everyone would sit together to cover books, in the last few days of the holidays.
As the rains continue to pound Bangalore, I can't think of a greater joy than to snuggle up with a nice book and a plate of hot pakoris. While Team CDMC cannot provide you with the pakoris, do feel free to come to the SBA library near you to select your favourite books.

Plates in Tubs!!
Yup. You got it right. That’s the newest slogan going around. It’s quite straightforward actually. Once a person is done eating in the canteen he/she should put the used utensils (plates, tumblers, spoons, etc.) in the tubs. This great idea provided by Swayam Arun is quite simple. A little effort by everyone can help keep our canteen clean. After all, if we can do it in McDonalds, in the Mess and in our homes, then surely we can do it in our canteen.
